Learn how
to draw your own skull art!
Drawing skulls is easy, once you know all the steps. This site shows
you how to draw 9 different skulls, so you can choose the ones that
most suit your personal style!
You
can use any medium you want to draw these skulls - pencil, pen, markers,
or crayons - whatever you've got! If you're just getting the hang
of it, you might want to try with a pencil first, so that you can
easily erase your mistakes. Then when you're done with the initial
drawing, you can always go over the lines with a marker or other art
material!
This drawing lesson will show you all the steps to create the skull on the left.
Here's the fun part: when you're done drawing your skull, you can then color and decorate your skull drawings for Day of the Dead! If you don't know what Day of the Dead is, read all about it! For examples of my Day of the Dead art, see my skull drawings on the right.
Click on each skull to be taken to simple step-by-step instructions for drawing each one.

Here
is an animation showing the order of all the steps involved
in drawing this skull. It might be helpful to watch the animation
before you start drawing, so that you can see how the individual
steps build to create this funky skull drawing! |
|
Draw a circle. It can be a perfectly round circle, or a slightly squashed circle, like the one above. |
Attached to the bottom of the circle, add 2 short lines (1 on each side). |
Connect the 2 lines you drew in Step 2 with a gently curving line that runs parallel to the bottom of the circle. This is the skull's jaw! |
|
Inside the area you just drew, draw a broad u-shape. This will be the mouth! |
Inside the mouth, draw a horizontal line in the middle for the teeth. |
Draw vertical lines to make teeth! |
|
Above the teeth, draw 2 raindrop shapes for nostrils. |
Draw two large eyes. Voila, you've drawn a skull! |
Watch this animation if you get stuck along the way. |

Cool, you've just drawn a skull! There are 8 more skull styles to choose from, so once you've mastered this one, go back to the beginning of How to Draw A Skull and try your hand at a few more funky skulls.
This skull design that you just learned is very similar to the one used to create the skull on the right. This gives you an idea of how you can add a bunch of colors and patterns to your skull to make it really come alive!
