How to varnish painted wooden table mats

I have done some mats (table mats) on a bit of thin wood and painted a drawing on top with acrylic paints. Can I use the Golden Acrylic Polymer Varnish on it?

response to question

I would suggest that you varnish your painted wooden table mats with at least two coats of polyurethane, rather than using Golden Acrylic Polymer Varnish. Golden Acrylic Polymer Varnish is generally not intended to be used on items that will be handled; it is more suitable for objects of art that will be on display rather than used.

You should be able to pick up some polyurethane from your local hardware store, which will be cheaper than buying it online and having it shipped. Apply one coat of polyurethane to your wooden table mat, then after it dries, add another layer. After it is completely dry it will be useable, and you should be able to wipe the table mats gently with a wet sponge to clean it off.

In any case, be sure to read the can of polyurethane before you apply it, to see if there are any special instructions.

Hope that helps and best of luck with it!
