Learn how
to create your own skull drawing!
Drawing a skull is easy and the results are fun. Skulls don't have
to be ominous - they can also be cute and colorful! I'll show you
all the steps to creating 9 different skulls, which you can see below.
Choose the one(s) that suit your personal style the most!
You
can use a pencil, pen, markers, or crayons - whatever you have on
hand. If you're just getting the hang of it, you might want to try
with a pencil first. That way you can erase your mistakes. If you
like the final drawing, you can always go over the lines with a marker
or other art material!
This drawing lesson will show you all the steps to create the skull on the left. This is one of the more complicated skulls, so if it feels overwhelming, start with an easier skull drawing.
When you're done drawing your skull, you can then color and decorate your skull drawings for Day of the Dead! If you don't know what Day of the Dead is, read all about it! For examples of my Day of the Dead art, see my skull drawings on the right.

individual steps build to create this cool skull drawing! |
|
Draw the arc of a circle, but leave a wide opening at the bottom. |
Add 2 short vertical lines, 1 on either end of the line you drew in Step 1. |
Connect these 2 lines with a single horizontal line. |
|
Underneath the line you drew in Step 3, draw a wide u-shape. This is the jaw of the skull. |
Draw a smaller wide u-shape that intersects the line you drew in Step 3. This is the bottom of the mouth. |
Draw a horizontal line that connects both ends of the u-shape that you drew in Step 5. This is the outline of the mouth! |
|
Inside the mouth, draw a bunch of short vertical lines to make teeth. |
Above the teeth, draw 2 raindrop shapes for nostrils. |
Draw 2 large circular shapes for eyes. Congrats, you just drew a skull! |
